A cosmetic tube is a small billboard that customers hold in their hands every day. Good artwork makes a product look premium on the shelf and in online photos. Poor artwork, with blurred text, a badly placed seam or missing legal details, can delay launches and damage trust.
Our guide to cosmetic lami tubes covers laminate choice, sizes and caps. This article focuses on artwork and labelling: how to design for a tube, which finishes to choose and what information the label must carry.
Always design on the manufacturer's dieline for your exact diameter and length. Sizes are explained in our tube sizes and capacity guide.
| Finish | Look and feel | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Gloss lacquer | Bright, vibrant colours | Mass-market creams, face washes, kids' products |
| Matte lacquer | Soft, modern, understated | Premium skincare, natural brands |
| Soft-touch | Velvety feel in the hand | Luxury and gifting ranges |
| White or coloured base | Strong colour contrast | Most cosmetic designs |
| Plain tube | Minimal, label or sticker added later | Small batches, trials, private label |

Cosmetic labels in India are governed mainly by the Cosmetics Rules, 2020 and the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules. Typical label content includes:
For small tubes, some details may be placed on the outer carton where the rules allow. Requirements change, so have a regulatory adviser review final artwork before printing.
Antilla Propack has manufactured printed laminated tubes in Rajkot, Gujarat since 2009 for brands making herbal cosmetics, fairness creams, shaving creams, hair colour and mehndi. Our team reviews artwork against the tube layout before printing. See the full cosmetics lami tube range.
Avoid logos, barcodes and small text across the side seam, because the overlap can distort them. Continuous background designs help hide the seam.
Common finishes include gloss, matte and soft-touch lacquers on white, coloured or natural-look bases, as well as plain tubes for labelling later.
Typical requirements include product name, manufacturer and marketer details, manufacturing licence number, net quantity, batch number, manufacturing and use-before dates, ingredients, directions and warnings, MRP and consumer care details. Check final artwork with a regulatory adviser.
Where the tube is too small, some details may be printed on the outer carton if the applicable rules allow. Confirm with a regulatory adviser.
Specify colours using a colour reference system, review a proof, and approve colour against a physical reference rather than a screen.
